யோனத்தானோ தன் தகப்பன் யுத்த வீரருக்கு ஆணையிட்டு மக்களைக் கட்டுப்படுத்தியிருந்ததை அறியவில்லை. அதனால் அவன் தன் கையிலிருந்த கோலை நீட்டித் தேனில் தோய்த்து அதிலிருந்து வழிந்த தேனைத் தன் கையில் எடுத்து வாய்க்குள் வைத்தான். உடனே அவன் பெலனடைந்தான்.

ஆனால் யோனத்தானுக்கு அவற்றைப்பற்றி எந்த விஷயமும் தெரியாது. உண்ணாமலிருக்க ஜனங்கள் நிர்பந்திக்கப்பட்டதைப்பற்றி அவன் எதுவும் அறிந்திருக்கவில்லை. யோனத்தானின் கையில் ஒரு கோல் இருந்தது. கோலின் ஒரு முனையைத்தேன் கூட்டில் நுழைத்து வெளியே எடுத்து, அத்தேனைப் பருகினான். பருகி முடிந்ததும் மிகவும் தெம்பாக இருப்பதாக உணர்ந்தான்.

But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that [was] in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.
