ಆದರೆ--ಮನುಷ್ಯ ರಿಂದ ಎಂದು ನಾವು ಹೇಳಿದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರು ನಮಗೆ ಕಲ್ಲೆಸೆಯುವರು. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಯೋಹಾನನು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಯೆಂದು ಅವರು ಒಪ್ಪಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡು

4ಯೋಹಾನನ ಬಾಪ್ತಿಸ್ಮವು ಪರಲೋಕ ದಿಂದಲೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಿಂದಲೋ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದನು.
5ಆಗ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮೊಳಗೆ--ಪರಲೋಕ ದಿಂದ ಎಂದು ನಾವು ಹೇಳಿದರೆ ಆತನು--ನೀವು ಯಾಕೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಂಬಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವನು.
6ಆದರೆ--ಮನುಷ್ಯ ರಿಂದ ಎಂದು ನಾವು ಹೇಳಿದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರು ನಮಗೆ ಕಲ್ಲೆಸೆಯುವರು. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಯೋಹಾನನು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಯೆಂದು ಅವರು ಒಪ್ಪಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡು
7ಅವರು--ಅದು ಎಲ್ಲಿಂ ದಲೋ ನಾವು ಅರಿಯೆವು ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರಕೊಟ್ಟರು.
8ಆಗ ಯೇಸು ಅವರಿಗೆ--ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ನಾನು ಯಾವ ಅಧಿಕಾರದಿಂದ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆಂದು ನಾನೂ ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವದಿಲ್ಲ ಅಂದನು.
