1. 28ಆಗ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನು ಬಂದು ಅವರು ಕೂಡಿ ಕೊಂಡು ತರ್ಕಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಆತನು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಉತ್ತರವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟನೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಆತನಿಗೆ --ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೈವಾಜ್ಞೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲನೆಯದು ಯಾವದು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದನು.
2. 29ಯೇಸು ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರವಾಗಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ--ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೈವಾಜ್ಞೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲನೆಯದು -- ಓ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲೇ, ಕೇಳು; ನಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಕರ್ತನು ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಕರ್ತನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
3. 30ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ದೇವರಾದ ಕರ್ತನನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ಣಹೃದಯದಿಂದಲೂ ಪೂರ್ಣಪ್ರಾಣದಿಂದಲೂ ಪೂರ್ಣಮನಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಪೂರ್ಣಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದಲೂ ಪ್ರೀತಿಸಬೇಕು; ಇದು ಮೊದ ಲನೆಯ ದೈವಾಜ್ಞೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.
4. 31ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ನೆರೆಯ ವನನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನಂತೆಯೇ ಪ್ರೀತಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬದು ಅದರಂ ತೆಯೇ ಇರುವ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಆಜ್ಞೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇವುಗಳಿ ಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ದೈವಾಜ್ಞೆಯು ಮತ್ತೊಂದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು.
5. 32ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಆ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಯು ಆತನಿಗೆ --ಬೋಧಕನೇ, ಒಳ್ಳೇದು. ನೀನು ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನೇ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೀ; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ದೇವರು ಒಬ್ಬನೇ; ಆತನ ಹೊರತು ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬನು ಇಲ್ಲವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.
