ശൗൽ മരുഭൂമിക്കു തെക്കുള്ള ഹഖീലാക്കുന്നിൽ പെരുവഴിക്കരികെ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി. ദാവീദോ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ പാർത്തു, ശൗൽ തന്നേ തേടി മരുഭൂമിയിൽ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

King James Version (KJV): And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which [is] before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

4അതുകൊണ്ടു ദാവീദ് ചാരന്മാരെ അയച്ചു ശൗൽ ഇന്നേടത്തു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞു.
5ദാവീദ് എഴുന്നേറ്റു ശൗൽ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങിയിരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു ചെന്നു; ശൗലും അവന്റെ സേനാപതിയായ നേരിന്റെ മകൻ അബ്നേരും കിടക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലം ദാവീദ് കണ്ടു; ശൗൽ കൈനിലയുടെ നടുവിൽ കിടന്നുറങ്ങി; പടജ്ജനം അവന്റെ ചുറ്റും പാളയമിറങ്ങിയിരുന്നു.
