അവർ ആളയച്ചു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി: യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം സംബന്ധിച്ചു നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവർ: യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം ഗത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about [thither].

6എന്നാൽ യഹോവയുടെ കൈ അസ്തോദ്യരുടെമേൽ ഭാരമായിരുന്നു; അവൻ അവരെ ശൂന്യമാക്കി അസ്തോദിലും അതിന്റെ അതിരുകളിലും ഉള്ളവരെ മൂലരോഗത്താൽ ബാധിച്ചു.

9അവർ അതു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നശേഷം ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു പരിഭ്രമം ഉണ്ടാകത്തക്കവണ്ണം യഹോവയുടെ കൈ ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നും വിരോധമായ്തീർന്നു; അവൻ പട്ടണക്കാരെ ആബാലവൃദ്ധം ബാധിച്ചു; അവർക്കു മൂലരോഗം തുടങ്ങി.
10അതുകൊണ്ടു അവർ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എക്രോനിലേക്കു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എക്രോനിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ എക്രോന്യർ: നമ്മെയും നമുക്കുള്ളവരെയും കൊല്ലുവാൻ അവർ യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നിലവിളിച്ചു.
