ഗിദെയോൻ ചെല്ലുമ്പോൾ ഒരുത്തൻ മറ്റൊരുത്തനോടു ഒരു സ്വപ്നം വിവരിക്കയായിരുന്നു: ഞാൻ ഒരു സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു; ഒരു യവയപ്പം മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ പാളയത്തിലേക്കു ഉരുണ്ടു വന്നു കൂടാരംവരെ എത്തി അതിനെ തള്ളി മറിച്ചിട്ടു അങ്ങനെ കൂടാരം വീണുകിടന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു മറ്റവൻ:

- 14ഇതു യോവാശിന്റെ മകനായ ഗിദെയോൻ എന്ന യിസ്രായേല്യന്റെ വാളല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നുമല്ല; ദൈവം മിദ്യാനെയും ഈ പാളയത്തെ ഒക്കെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
- 15ഗിദെയോൻ സ്വപ്നവും പൊരുളും കേട്ടപ്പോൾ നമസ്കരിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ പാളയത്തിൽ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു: എഴുന്നേല്പിൻ, യഹോവ മിദ്യാന്റെ പാളയത്തെ നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
