1. 2ബേഥേൽകാർ യഹോവയെ പ്രസാദിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു സരേസരിനെയും രേഗെം-മേലെക്കിനെയും അവരുടെ ആളുകളെയും അയച്ചു,
2. 3സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരോടും പ്രവാചകന്മാരോടും: ഞങ്ങൾ ഇത്ര സംവത്സരമായി ചെയ്തുവന്നതുപോലെ അഞ്ചാം മാസത്തിൽ കരഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു ഉപവസിക്കേണമോ എന്നു ചോദിപ്പിച്ചു.
3. 4അപ്പോൾ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു എനിക്കു ഉണ്ടായതെന്തെന്നാൽ:
4. 5നീ ദേശത്തിലെ സകലജനത്തോടും പുരോഹിതന്മാരോടും പറയേണ്ടതു: നിങ്ങൾ ഈ എഴുപതു സംവത്സരമായി അഞ്ചാം മാസത്തിലും ഏഴാം മാസത്തിലും ഉപവസിച്ചു വിലപിക്കയിൽ നിങ്ങൾ എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി തന്നേയോ ഉപവസിച്ചതു?
5. 6നിങ്ങൾ ഭക്ഷിക്കുമ്പോഴും പാനം ചെയ്യുമ്പോഴും നിങ്ങൾ തന്നേയല്ലയോ ഭക്ഷിക്കയും പാനം ചെയ്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു?
