Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry [thee] whither thou wouldest not.

3. 18యేసు నా గొఱ్ఱెలను మేపుము. నీవు ¸యౌవనుడవై యుండినప్పుడు నీ అంతట నీవే నడుము కట్టుకొని నీకిష్టమైన చోటికి వెళ్లుచుంటివి; నీవు ముసలివాడవైనప్పుడు నీ చేతులు నీవు చాచుదువు, వేరొకడు నీ నడుము కట్టి నీకిష్టము కాని చోటికి నిన్ను మోసికొని పోవునని నీతో నిశ్చయముగా చెప్పుచున్నానని అతనితో చెప్పెను.
4. 19అతడు ఎట్టి మరణమువలన దేవుని మహిమపరచునో దాని సూచించి ఆయన ఈ మాట చెప్పెను. ఇట్లు చెప్పినన్ను వెంబడించుమని అతనితో అనెను.
5. 20పేతురు వెనుకకు తిరిగి, యేసు ప్రేమించిన వాడును, భోజనపంక్తిని ఆయన రొమ్మున ఆనుకొనిప్రభువా, నిన్ను అప్పగించువాడెవడని అడిగిన వాడునైన శిష్యుడు తమ వెంట వచ్చుట చూచెను.
