அவன், “இறைவனே, நான் இதைச் செய்வதற்கு எண்ணியும் பார்க்கமாட்டேன். தங்கள் உயிரையும் ஒரு பொருட்டாக எண்ணாமல் தண்ணீர் கொண்டுவந்த இந்த மனிதர்களின் இரத்தத்தை நான் குடிப்பேனோ?” என்றான். இவர்கள் தங்கள் உயிருக்கு வர இருந்த ஆபத்தையும் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் அதைக் கொண்டுவந்ததால் தாவீது அதைக் குடிக்கவில்லை. இத்தகைய துணிகரமான செயல்களை இந்த மூன்று வலிமைமிக்க மனிதர்களும் செய்தார்கள்.

பிறகு தாவீது, “தேவனே! என்னால் இத்தண்ணீரைக் குடிக்கமுடியாது. தங்கள் உயிரைப் பணயம் வைத்து இவர்கள் இத்தண்ணீரைக் கொண்டுவந்தனர். இதனைக் குடிப்பது இவர்களின் இரத்தத்தைக் குடிப்பது போன்றதாகும்” என்றான். இதற்காகத்தான் தாவீது அந்த தண்ணீரைக் குடிக்க மறுத்தான். இதுபோல பல்வேறு சாகசங்களை மூன்று வீரர்களும் செய்தனர்.

And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with [the jeopardy of] their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

4. 20யோவாபின் சகோதரனாகிய அபிசாய் அந்த மூன்றுபேரில் பிரதானமானவன்; அவன் தன் ஈட்டியை ஓங்கி, முந்நூறுபேரை மடங்கடித்ததினால் இந்த மூன்றுபேரில் பேர்பெற்றவனானான்.
5. 21இந்த மூன்றுபேரில் அவன் மற்ற இரண்டுபேரிலும் மேன்மையுள்ளவனானதினால், அவர்களில் தலைவனானான்; ஆனாலும் அந்த முந்தின மூன்றுபேருக்கு அவன் சமானமானவனல்ல.
