எனவே எல்லா மனிதர்களும் கிளைகளை வெட்டிக்கொண்டு அபிமெலேக்கைப் பின்பற்றிச் சென்றார்கள். அவர்கள் அந்தக் கிளைகளை அரணைச் சுற்றி அடுக்கிவைத்து, மக்கள் உள்ளே இருக்கத்தக்கதாகத் நெருப்பிட்டுக் கொளுத்தினார்கள். எனவே சீகேமின் கோபுரத்திற்குள் இருந்த கிட்டத்தட்ட ஆயிரம் ஆண்களும் பெண்களும் செத்துப் போனார்கள்.

4. 50பின்பு அபிமெலேக்கு தேபேசுக்குப் போய், அதற்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாளயமிறங்கி, அதைப் பிடித்தான்.
5. 51அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் நடுவே பலத்த துருக்கம் இருந்தது; அங்கே சகல புருஷரும் ஸ்திரீகளும் பட்டணத்து மனுஷர் அனைவரும் ஓடிப் புகுந்து, கதவைப் பூட்டிக்கொண்டு, துருக்கத்தின்மேல் ஏறினார்கள்.
