26वह तो उन एमोरियों की नाई जिनको यहोवा ने इस्राएलियों के साम्हने से देश से निकाला था बहुत ही घिनौने काम करता था, अर्थात् मूरतों की उपासना करने लगा था।
27एलिरयाह के ये वचन सुनकर अहाब ने अपने वस्त्रा फाड़े, और अपनी देह पर टाट लपेटकर उपवास करने और टाट ही ओढ़े पड़ा रहने लगा, और दबे पांवों चलने लगा।
28और यहोवा का यह वचन तिशबी एलिरयाह के पास पहुंचा,
29कि क्या तू ने देखा है कि अहाब मेरे साम्हने नम्र बन गया है? इस कारण कि वह मेरे साम्हने नम्र बन गया है मैं वह विपत्ति उसके जीते जी उस पर न डालूंगा परन्तू उसके पुत्रा के दिनों में मैं उसके घराने पर वह पिपत्ति भेजूंगा।
