1सावधान रहो! तुम मनुष्यों को दिखाने के लिये अपने धर्म के काम न करो, नहीं तो अपने स्वर्गीय पिता से कुछ भी फल न पाओगे।
2इसलिये जब तू दान करे, तो अपने आगे तुरही न बजवा, जैसा कपटी, सभाओं और गलियों में करते हैं, ताकि लोग उन की बड़ाई करें, मैं तुम से सच कहता हूं, कि वे अपना फल पा चुके।
3परन्तु जब तू दान करे, तो जो तेरा दहिना हाथ करता है, उसे तेरा बांया हाथ न जानने पाए।
4ताकि तेरा दान गुप्त रहे; और तब तेरा पिता जो गुप्त में देखता है, तुझे प्रतिफल देगा।।
5और जब तू प्रार्थना करे, तो कपटियों के समान न हो क्योंकि लोगों को दिखाने के लिये सभाओं में और सड़कों के मोड़ों पर खड़े होकर प्रार्थना करना उन को अच्छा लगता है; मैं तुम से सच कहता हूं, कि वे अपना प्रतिफल पा चुके।
