ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರು ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರ ವಾಗಿ--ಈ ಮಾತು ಒಳ್ಳೇದು ಅಂದರು. ಆಗ ಎಲೀ ಯನು ಬಾಳನ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳಿಗೆ--ನೀವು ಅನೇಕರಾಗಿ ರುವದರಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಹೋರಿಯನ್ನು ಆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅದನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಸಿದ್ಧಮಾಡಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರುಗಳ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕರೆಯಿರಿ; ಆದರೆ ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕದೆ ಇರ್ರಿ ಅಂದನು.

24ಆಗ ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರುಗಳ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕರೆಯಿರಿ; ನಾನು ಕರ್ತನ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುವೆನು. ಆಗ ಬೆಂಕಿಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರ ಕೊಡುವ ದೇವರು ತಾನೇ ದೇವರಾಗಿ ರುವನು ಅಂದನು.
25ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರು ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರ ವಾಗಿ--ಈ ಮಾತು ಒಳ್ಳೇದು ಅಂದರು. ಆಗ ಎಲೀ ಯನು ಬಾಳನ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳಿಗೆ--ನೀವು ಅನೇಕರಾಗಿ ರುವದರಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಹೋರಿಯನ್ನು ಆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅದನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಸಿದ್ಧಮಾಡಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರುಗಳ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕರೆಯಿರಿ; ಆದರೆ ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕದೆ ಇರ್ರಿ ಅಂದನು.
26ಅವರು ತಮಗೆ ಕೊಡಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಹೋರಿ ಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಸಿದ್ಧಮಾಡಿ--ಓ ಬಾಳನೇ, ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕೇಳೆಂದು ಉದಯದಿಂದ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದ ವರೆಗೂ ಬಾಳನ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಒಂದು ಶಬ್ದವಾಗಲಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರ ಕೊಡುವವನಾಗಲಿ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರು ಮಾಡಿದ ಬಲಿಪೀಠದ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಕುಣಿದಾಡಿದರು.
27ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲೀಯನು ಅವ ರನ್ನು ಗೇಲಿಮಾಡಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ--ದೊಡ್ಡ ಶಬ್ದದಿಂದ ಕೂಗಿರಿ, ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅವನು ಒಬ್ಬ ದೇವರು; ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನು; ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನು.; ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾನು; ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಅವನು ನಿದ್ರೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನು; ಈಗ ಅವನು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸಲ್ಪಡಬೇಕು ಅಂದನು.
