ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಅವನು ಪ್ರತಿಸಂವತ್ಸರದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇವಳು ಕರ್ತನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಈ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಹನ್ನಳನ್ನು ಬಾಧಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ; ಅವಳು ಅತ್ತು ಊಟ ಮಾಡದೆ ಇದ್ದಳು.

King James Version (KJV): And [as] he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

5ಹನ್ನಳಿಗೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯ ವಾದ ಪಾಲನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಹನ್ನಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಮಾಡಿ ದನು. ಆದರೆ ಕರ್ತನು ಅವಳ ಗರ್ಭವನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿ ದ್ದನು.
6ಕರ್ತನು ಅವಳ ಗರ್ಭವನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವಳ ವಿರೋಧಿಯಾದವಳು ಅವಳಿಗೆ ಮನಗುಂದುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ಕೆಣಕಿ ಬಾಧಿಸಿದಳು.
7ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಅವನು ಪ್ರತಿಸಂವತ್ಸರದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇವಳು ಕರ್ತನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಈ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಹನ್ನಳನ್ನು ಬಾಧಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ; ಅವಳು ಅತ್ತು ಊಟ ಮಾಡದೆ ಇದ್ದಳು.
8ಆಗ ಅವಳ ಗಂಡನಾದ ಎಲ್ಕಾನನು ಅವಳಿಗೆ--ಹನ್ನಳೇ, ಯಾಕೆ ಅಳುತ್ತೀ? ಯಾಕೆ ತಿನ್ನದೆ ಇದ್ದೀ? ಯಾಕೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖಪಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀ? ಹತ್ತು ಮಂದಿ ಕುಮಾರರಿಗಿಂತ ನಾನು ನಿನಗೆ ಉತ್ತಮನಲ್ಲವೋ ಅಂದನು.
9ಆಗ ಅವರು ಶೀಲೋವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಂದು ಕುಡಿದ ತರುವಾಯ ಹನ್ನಳು ಎದ್ದುಹೋದಳು. ಯಾಜಕನಾದ ಏಲಿಯು ಕರ್ತನ ಮಂದಿರದ ಸ್ತಂಭದ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಸನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತಿರುವಾಗ
