ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಓಡಿಹೋದರೆಂದು ಎಫ್ರಾಯಿಮ್‌ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಕೇಳಿ ಅವರೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಿಡದೆ ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿದರು.

- 22ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಓಡಿಹೋದರೆಂದು ಎಫ್ರಾಯಿಮ್‌ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಕೇಳಿ ಅವರೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಿಡದೆ ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿದರು.
- 23ಹೀಗೆ ಕರ್ತನು ಆ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದನು. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಆ ಯುದ್ಧವು ಬೇತಾವೆನಿನ ವರೆಗೂ ನಡೆಯಿತು.
- 24ಆದರೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಆ ದಿವಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಬಳಲಿಹೋದರು. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಸೌಲನು--ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಶತ್ರುಗಳಿಗೆ ಮುಯ್ಯಿ ತೀರಿಸುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಸಾಯಂಕಾ ಲದ ವರೆಗೆ ಯಾವನು ಆಹಾರ ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತಾನೋ ಅವನು ಶಪಿಸಲ್ಪಡಲಿ ಎಂದು ಆಣೆ ಇಟ್ಟದ್ದರಿಂದ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಆಹಾರದ ರುಚಿ ನೋಡದೆ ಇದ್ದರು.
