ಆಗ ಸೌಲನು ಯೋನಾತಾನನಿಗೆ--ನೀನು ಮಾಡಿ ದ್ದನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸು ಅಂದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋನಾ ತಾನನು--ನನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕೋಲಿನ ಕೊನೆಯಿಂದ ನಾನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಜೇನು ತುಪ್ಪವನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ರುಚಿ ನೋಡಿದೆನು; ಇಗೋ, ನಾನು ಸಾಯಬೇಕು ಅಂದನು.

Aaga saulanu yonaataananige--neenu maadi ddannu nanage tilisu andanu. Adakke yonaa taananu--nanna kaiyalliruva kolina koneyinda naanu svalpa jenu tuppavannu takkondu ruchi nodidenu; igo, naanu saayabeku andanu.

King James Version (KJV): Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that [was] in mine hand, [and], lo, I must die.

43ಆಗ ಸೌಲನು ಯೋನಾತಾನನಿಗೆ--ನೀನು ಮಾಡಿ ದ್ದನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸು ಅಂದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋನಾ ತಾನನು--ನನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕೋಲಿನ ಕೊನೆಯಿಂದ ನಾನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಜೇನು ತುಪ್ಪವನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ರುಚಿ ನೋಡಿದೆನು; ಇಗೋ, ನಾನು ಸಾಯಬೇಕು ಅಂದನು.
44ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೌಲನು--ಯೋನಾತಾನನೇ, ನೀನು ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಸಾಯಬೇಕು; ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ದೇವರು ನನಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲಿ ಅಂದನು.
45ಆದರೆ ಜನರು ಸೌಲನಿಗೆ--ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ದೊಡ್ಡ ರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಯನ್ನುಂಟು ಮಾಡಿದ ಯೋನಾತಾನನು ಸಾಯ ಬಹುದೋ? ಅದು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಆಗದು; ಅವನು ಇಂದು ಕರ್ತನ ಸಹಾಯದ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಡಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಕರ್ತನ ಆಣೆ, ಅವನ ತಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಒಂದು ಕೂದಲಾದರೂ ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೀಳಬಾರದು ಅಂದರು. ಜನರು ಯೋನಾತಾನನನ್ನು ಸಾಯದ ಹಾಗೆ ಬಿಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.
