ಸಮುವೇಲನು--ನಿನಗಿರುವ ಮಕ್ಕ ಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಇಷ್ಟೇ ಮಂದಿಯೋ? ಎಂದು ಇಷಯನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕವನು--ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಚಿಕ್ಕವ ನೊಬ್ಬನು ಉಳಿದಿದ್ದಾನೆ; ಇಗೋ, ಅವನು ಕುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದನು. ಆಗ ಸಮುವೇಲನು ಇಷಯನಿಗೆ--ಅವನನ್ನು ಕರೆಯ ಕಳುಹಿಸು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅವನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬರುವವರೆಗೆ ನಾವು ಕೂತುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು ಅಂದನು.
Samuvelanu--ninagiruva makka lellaa ishte mandiyo? Endu ishayanannu kelidanu. Adakkavanu--ivarellarigintaloo chikkava nobbanu ulididdaane; igo, avanu kurigalannu kaayuttaa iddaane andanu. Aaga samuvelanu ishayanige--avanannu kareya kaluhisu; yaakandare avanu illige baruvavarege naavu kootukollabaaradu andanu.

- 11ಸಮುವೇಲನು--ನಿನಗಿರುವ ಮಕ್ಕ ಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಇಷ್ಟೇ ಮಂದಿಯೋ? ಎಂದು ಇಷಯನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕವನು--ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಚಿಕ್ಕವ ನೊಬ್ಬನು ಉಳಿದಿದ್ದಾನೆ; ಇಗೋ, ಅವನು ಕುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದನು. ಆಗ ಸಮುವೇಲನು ಇಷಯನಿಗೆ--ಅವನನ್ನು ಕರೆಯ ಕಳುಹಿಸು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅವನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬರುವವರೆಗೆ ನಾವು ಕೂತುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು ಅಂದನು.
- 12ಆಗ ಇಷಯನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕರೇಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು. ಅವನು ಕೆಂಪಾದ ಮೈಬಣ್ಣದವನಾಗಿಯೂ ಸುಂದರ ಮುಖವುಳ್ಳವ ನಾಗಿಯೂ ನೋಟಕ್ಕೆ ಚೆಲುವಿಕೆಯುಳ್ಳವನಾಗಿಯೂ ಇದ್ದನು. ಆಗ ಕರ್ತನು ಸಮುವೇಲನಿಗೆ--ನೀನೆದ್ದು ಇವನನ್ನು ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸು; ಇವನೇ ಅವನು ಅಂದನು.
- 13ಸಮುವೇಲನು ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಇರುವ ಕೊಂಬನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಅವನನ್ನು ಅವನ ಸಹೋದರರ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭಿಷೇಕ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಆ ದಿವಸದಲ್ಲೇ ಕರ್ತನ ಆತ್ಮನು ದಾವೀದನ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಂದನು. ಸಮುವೇಲನು ಎದ್ದು ರಾಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದನು.

- 1 Samuel 17:12–15 1 ಸಮುವೇಲನು 17:12–15ದಾವೀದನು ಯೆಹೂದದ ಬೇತ್ಲೆಹೇಮ್‌ ಊರಿನ ಎಫ್ರಾತ್ಯನಾದ ಇಷಯನೆಂಬವನ ಮಗನಾ ಗಿದ್ದನು. ಈ ಇಷಯನಿಗೆ ಎಂಟು ಮಂದಿ ಕುಮಾರ ರಿದ್ದರು. ಇವನು ಸೌಲನ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜನರೊಳಗೆ ವೃದ್ಧನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ಇಷಯನ ಮೂವರು ಹಿರೀ ಕುಮಾರರು ಸೌಲನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದರು. ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದ ಆ ಮೂವರು ಕುಮಾರರಲ್ಲಿ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲ ಮಗನ ಹೆಸರು ಎಲೀಯಾಬನು; ಎರಡನೆ ಯವನ ಹೆಸರು ಅಬೀನಾದಾಬನು, ಮೂರನೆಯವನ ಹೆಸರು ಶಮ್ಮನು. ಆದರೆ ದಾವೀದನು ಚಿಕ್ಕವನಾ ಗಿದ್ದನು. ಹಿರಿಯರಾದ ಆ ಮೂವರು ಸೌಲನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದರು. ದಾವೀದನು ಸೌಲನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬೇತ್ಲೆಹೇಮಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಕುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೇಯಿಸಲು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದನು.
