ಅನಂತರ ಇಷಯನು ತನ್ನ ಏಳುಮಂದಿ ಕುಮಾರರನ್ನು ಸಮುವೇಲನ ಮುಂದೆ ಬರಮಾಡಿದನು; ಆದರೆ ಸಮುವೇಲನು ಇಷಯ ನಿಗೆ--ಕರ್ತನು ಇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನನ್ನಾದರೂ ಆದುಕೊಳ್ಳ ಲಿಲ್ಲ ಅಂದನು.

Anantara ishayanu tanna elumandi kumaararannu samuvelana munde baramaadidanu; aadare samuvelanu ishaya nige--kartanu ivaralli obbanannaadaroo aadukolla lilla andanu.

9ಇಷಯನು ಶಮ್ಮನನ್ನು ಬರಮಾಡಿದನು; ಆದರೆ ಅವನು--ಇವನನ್ನು ಕರ್ತನು ಆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ ಅಂದನು.
10ಅನಂತರ ಇಷಯನು ತನ್ನ ಏಳುಮಂದಿ ಕುಮಾರರನ್ನು ಸಮುವೇಲನ ಮುಂದೆ ಬರಮಾಡಿದನು; ಆದರೆ ಸಮುವೇಲನು ಇಷಯ ನಿಗೆ--ಕರ್ತನು ಇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನನ್ನಾದರೂ ಆದುಕೊಳ್ಳ ಲಿಲ್ಲ ಅಂದನು.
11ಸಮುವೇಲನು--ನಿನಗಿರುವ ಮಕ್ಕ ಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಇಷ್ಟೇ ಮಂದಿಯೋ? ಎಂದು ಇಷಯನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕವನು--ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಚಿಕ್ಕವ ನೊಬ್ಬನು ಉಳಿದಿದ್ದಾನೆ; ಇಗೋ, ಅವನು ಕುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದನು. ಆಗ ಸಮುವೇಲನು ಇಷಯನಿಗೆ--ಅವನನ್ನು ಕರೆಯ ಕಳುಹಿಸು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅವನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬರುವವರೆಗೆ ನಾವು ಕೂತುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು ಅಂದನು.
12ಆಗ ಇಷಯನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕರೇಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು. ಅವನು ಕೆಂಪಾದ ಮೈಬಣ್ಣದವನಾಗಿಯೂ ಸುಂದರ ಮುಖವುಳ್ಳವ ನಾಗಿಯೂ ನೋಟಕ್ಕೆ ಚೆಲುವಿಕೆಯುಳ್ಳವನಾಗಿಯೂ ಇದ್ದನು. ಆಗ ಕರ್ತನು ಸಮುವೇಲನಿಗೆ--ನೀನೆದ್ದು ಇವನನ್ನು ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸು; ಇವನೇ ಅವನು ಅಂದನು.
