2. 2ಕರ್ಮೆಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಾಸ್ತ್ಯಗಳಿರುವ ಮಾವೋನಿನ ವನಾದ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿದ್ದನು. ಆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಬಹು ದೊಡ್ಡವನಾಗಿದ್ದನು; ಅವನಿಗೆ ಮೂರು ಸಾವಿರ ಕುರಿಗಳೂ ಸಾವಿರ ಮೇಕೆಗಳೂ ಇದ್ದವು. ಅವನು ಕರ್ಮೆಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಕುರಿಗಳ ಉಣ್ಣೆಯನ್ನು ಕತ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಿ ದ್ದನು.
3. 3ಈ ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಹೆಸರು ನಾಬಾಲನು; ಅವನ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯ ಹೆಸರು ಅಬೀಗೈಲ್‌. ಆ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯು ಮಹಾ ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತೆಯೂ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವತಿಯೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದಳು. ಆದರೆ ಆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು--ಕಠಿಣ ಸ್ವಭಾವದವನಾಗಿಯೂ ತನ್ನ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಟ್ಟವನಾಗಿಯೂ ಇದ್ದನು; ಅವನು ಕಾಲೇಬನ ವಂಶಸ್ಥನು.
4. 4ನಾಬಾಲನು ತನ್ನ ಕುರಿಗಳ ಉಣ್ಣೆಯನ್ನು ಕತ್ತರಿಸುವ ವರ್ತಮಾನವನ್ನು ದಾವೀದನು ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಳಿದನು.
5. 5ಆಗ ದಾವೀದನು ಹತ್ತು ಮಂದಿ ಯುವಕರನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು; ದಾವೀದನು ಅವರಿಗೆ--ನೀವು ಕರ್ಮೆಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ನಾಬಾಲನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದಾಗ ನನ್ನ ಹೆಸರಿನಿಂದ ಅವನನ್ನು ವಂದಿಸಿ;
