1. 1ದಾವೀದನು ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ತುದಿಯಿಂದ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದೂರಹೋದಾಗ ಇಗೋ, ಮೆಫೀಬೋ ಶೆತನ ಸೇವಕನಾದ ಚೀಬನು ತಡಿಹಾಕಿದ ಎರಡು ಕತ್ತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಡಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ಅವನನ್ನು ಎದುರು ಗೊಂಡನು; ಅವುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಇನ್ನೂರು ರೊಟ್ಟಿ ಗಳೂ ಒಣಗಿದ ನೂರು ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷೇ ಗೊಂಚಲುಗಳೂ ವಸಂತಕಾಲದ ನೂರು ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳೂ ಒಂದು ಬುದ್ದಲಿ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸವೂ ಇದ್ದವು.
2. 2ಅರಸನು ಚೀಬನಿಗೆ--ಇವು ಯಾಕೆ ಅಂದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಚೀಬನು--ಕತ್ತೆಗಳು ಅರಸನ ಮನೆಯವರು ಹತ್ತುವದಕ್ಕೂ ಆ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಳೂ ವಸಂತಕಾಲದ ಫಲಗಳೂ ಯೌವನಸ್ಥರು ತಿನ್ನುವ ದಕ್ಕೂ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸವು ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದಣಿದವರು ಕುಡಿಯುವದಕ್ಕೂ ಅಂದನು.
3. 3ಆಗ ಅರಸನು ಅವ ನನ್ನು--ನಿನ್ನ ಯಜಮಾನನ ಕುಮಾರನು ಎಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾ ನೆಂದು ಕೇಳಿದನು. ಚೀಬನು ಅರಸನಿಗೆ--ಇಗೋ, ಅವನು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ--ಈ ಹೊತ್ತು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ಮನೆಯವರು ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ರಾಜ್ಯವನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ತಿರಿಗಿಕೊಡುವರೆಂದು ಅಂದನು.
4. 4ಆಗ ಅರಸನು ಚೀಬನಿಗೆ--ಇಗೋ, ಮೆಫೀಬೋಶೆತನಿಗೆ ಉಂಟಾದದ್ದೆಲ್ಲಾ ನಿನ್ನದಾಯಿತು ಅಂದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಚೀಬನು--ಅರಸನಾದ ನನ್ನ ಒಡೆ ಯನೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗೆ ದಯೆದೊರಕಲಿ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇನೆ ಅಂದನು.
