ದಾವೀದನು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದನು; ಅರಸನು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಯಲಿಟ್ಟ ಉಪಪತ್ನಿಗಳಾದ ಹತ್ತುಮಂದಿ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದು ಕೊಂಡು ಅವರನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಕಾವಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಿಸಿ ಸಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು. ಆದರೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ತಿರುಗಿ ಕೂಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅವರು ಸಾಯುವ ದಿವಸದ ವರೆಗೂ ಕಾವಲಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟು ವಿಧವೆಯರ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಬದುಕಿದರು.

- 2ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್‌ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರು ದಾವೀದನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಸರಿದು ಬಿಕ್ರೀಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಶೆಬನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹೋದರು. ಆದರೆ ಯೊರ್ದನಿನಿಂದ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನ ವರೆಗೂ ಇರುವ ಯೆಹೂದ ಜನರು ತಮ್ಮ ಅರಸನನ್ನು ಅಂಟಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.
