ಅವರು ಮನೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅವನು ಮಲಗುವ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದನು; ಇವರು ಅವನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿದು ಅದನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ರಾತ್ರಿಯೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದು

5ಬೇರೋತಿನ ಮಗನಾಗಿರುವ ರಿಮ್ಮೋನನ ಮಕ್ಕ ಳಾದ ರೇಕಾಬನೂ ಬಾಣನೂ ಹೊರಟು ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದ ಬಿಸಿಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಚದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಈಷ್ಬೋಶೆತನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದರು.
6ಗೋಧಿಯನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವವರಾಗಿ ನಡು ಮನೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅವನ ಐದನೇ ಎಲುಬಿನ ಸಂದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಿವಿದರು. ರೇಕಾಬನೂ ಅವನ ಸಹೋದರನಾದ ಬಾಣನೂ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದರು.
7ಅವರು ಮನೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅವನು ಮಲಗುವ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದನು; ಇವರು ಅವನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿದು ಅದನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ರಾತ್ರಿಯೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದು
8ಹೆಬ್ರೋನಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ದಾವೀದನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಈಷ್ಬೋ ಶೆತನ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ತಂದು ಅರಸನಿಗೆ--ಇಗೋ, ನಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿದ ನಿನ್ನ ಶತ್ರುವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸೌಲನ ಮಗನಾದ ಈಷ್ಬೋಶೆತನ ತಲೆಯು. ಈ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ತನು ಅರಸನಾದ ನಮ್ಮ ಒಡೆಯನಿಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಸೌಲ ನಿಗೂ ಅವನ ಸಂತಾನಕ್ಕೂ ಮುಯ್ಯಿತೀರಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದರು.
9ಆಗ ದಾವೀದನು ಬೇರೋತಿನ ಮಗನಾ ಗಿರುವ ರಿಮ್ಮೋನನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾದ ರೇಕಾಬಿಗೂ ಅವನ ಸಹೋದರನಾದ ಬಾಣನಿಗೂ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರವಾಗಿ--ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಇಕ್ಕಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ವಿಮೋಚಿಸಿದ ಕರ್ತನ ಜೀವದಾಣೆ, ತನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಸುವರ್ತಮಾನವನ್ನು ತಂದವನು ಎಂದು ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವನಾಗಿ ನಾನು ತನ್ನ ವರ್ತಮಾನಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ಬಹುಮಾನವನ್ನು ಕೊಡು ವೆನೆಂದು ನೆನಸಿ
