ಅವರು ಮಾರಾಗೆ ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಾರಾದ ನೀರನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯಲಾರದೆ ಇದ್ದರು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅದು ಕಹಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದಕಾರಣ ಅದರ ಹೆಸರು ಮಾರಾ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು.

- 22ಹೀಗೆ ಮೋಶೆಯು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರನ್ನು ಕೆಂಪು ಸಮುದ್ರದಿಂದ ಬರಮಾಡಿದನು; ಅವರು ಶೂರಿನ ಅರಣ್ಯದೊಳಗೆ ಹೋದರು; ಅವರು ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ದಿನ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ್ಯೂ ನೀರನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ.
- 23ಅವರು ಮಾರಾಗೆ ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಾರಾದ ನೀರನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯಲಾರದೆ ಇದ್ದರು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅದು ಕಹಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದಕಾರಣ ಅದರ ಹೆಸರು ಮಾರಾ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು.
- 24ಆದದ ರಿಂದ ಜನರು--ನಾವು ಏನು ಕುಡಿಯೋಣ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಮೋಶೆಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಗುಣುಗುಟ್ಟಿದರು.
- 25ಅವನು ಕರ್ತನಿಗೆ ಮೊರೆಯಿಟ್ಟನು; ಆಗ ಕರ್ತನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಮರವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿದನು; ಅವನು ಅದನ್ನು ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಿದಾಗ ನೀರು ಸಿಹಿಯಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು; ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಆತನು ಅವರಿಗಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ನಿಯಮವನ್ನೂ ಒಂದು ಶಾಸನವನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಅವರನ್ನು ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿದನು.
