1ಕರ್ತನಾದ ದೇವರು ಮಾಡಿದ ಅಡವಿಯ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮೃಗಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಸರ್ಪವು ಯುಕ್ತಿ ಯುಳ್ಳದ್ದಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅದು ಸ್ತ್ರೀಗೆ--ನೀವು ತೋಟ ದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಯಾವ ಮರದ ಫಲವನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನಬಾರದೆಂದು ದೇವರು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು ನಿಜವೋ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿತು.
2ಆಗ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯು ಸರ್ಪಕ್ಕೆ--ತೋಟದ ಮರಗಳ ಫಲಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ತಿನ್ನಬಹುದು.
3ಆದರೆ ತೋಟದ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ರುವ ಮರದ ಫಲದ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರು--ನೀವು ಸಾಯದ ಹಾಗೆ ಅದನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನಲೂ ಬಾರದು, ಮುಟ್ಟಲೂ ಬಾರದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದಳು.
4ಸರ್ಪವು ಸ್ತ್ರೀಗೆ--ನೀವು ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿ ಸಾಯುವದಿಲ್ಲ;
