ಯೆಹೋಶುವನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ತಿರಿಗಿ ಬಂದು ಅವನಿಗೆ--ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಏರಿಹೋಗದೆ ಇರಲಿ; ಆಯಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆಯುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಎರಡು ಅಥವಾ ಮೂರು ಸಾವಿರ ಜನರು ಮಾತ್ರವೇ ಹೋಗಲಿ; ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ದಣಿಸಬೇಡ; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಜನರು ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ ಅಂದರು.
Yehoshuvana balige tirigi bandu avanige--janarellaroo erihogade irali; aayiyannu hodeyuvadakke eradu athavaa mooru saavira janaru maatrave hogali; allige hoguva janarellarannoo danisabeda; yaakandare svalpa janaru maatra iddaare andaru.

- 1ಯೆಹೂದ ಗೋತ್ರದ ಜೆರಹನ ಮಗನಾದ ಜಬ್ದೀಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಕರ್ವಿಾಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಆಕಾನನು ಶಾಪಕ್ಕೀಡಾದದ್ದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡನು. ಈ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್‌ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಶಾಪಕ್ಕೀಡಾದವರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪರಾಧಿಗಳಾದರು. ಆದದರಿಂದ ಕರ್ತನ ಕೋಪವು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್‌ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಉರಿಯಹತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
- 2ಆಗ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಅವರಿಗೆ--ನೀವು ದೇಶ ವನ್ನು ಪಾಳತಿ ನೋಡಿ ಬನ್ನಿರಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಯೆರಿಕೋ ವಿನಿಂದ ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ಬೇತೇಲಿಗೆ ಪೂರ್ವಕಡೆಯಾದ ಬೇತಾವೆನಿನ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಆಯಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು. ಆಗ ಅವರು ಹೋಗಿ ಆಯಿಯನ್ನು ಪಾಳತಿನೋಡಿ

- 4ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮೂರುಸಾವಿರ ಮಂದಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದರು; ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ಆಯಿಯ ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಮುಂದೆ ಓಡಿಹೋದರು.
- 5ಆಯಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮೂವತ್ತಾರು ಮಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದು ಹಾಕಿದರು. ಬಾಗಲಿನಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿ ಷೆಬಾರಿಮಿನ ವರೆಗೂ ಅವರನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿ ಇಳಿದು ಹೋಗುವ ವರೆಗೂ ಅವರನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದರು. ಆದದ ರಿಂದ ಜನರ ಹೃದಯವು ಕರಗಿ ನೀರಿನಂತಾಯಿತು.
