ತರುವಾಯ ಯೇಸು ಜನಸಮೂಹಕ್ಕೂ ಶಿಷ್ಯರಿಗೂ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೇನಂದರೆ --
Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿ ಗಳೂ ಫರಿಸಾಯರೂ ಮೋಶೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂತಿ ದ್ದಾರೆ;
Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:
ಆದದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವವು ಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕೈಕೊಂಡು ನಡೆಯಿರಿ; ಅವರ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನೀವು ಮಾಡಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅವರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಮಾಡುವದಿಲ್ಲ.
All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, [that] observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
ಹೊರುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಭಾರವಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರೂರವಾದ ಹೊರೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಜನರ ಹೆಗಲುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಾವಾ ದರೋ ತಮ್ಮ ಬೆರಳುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದರಿಂದ ಲಾದರೂ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಸರಿಸುವದಿಲ್ಲ.
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay [them] on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
ಆದರೆ ತಾವು ಮಾಡುವ ತಮ್ಮ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರು ನೋಡುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡು ತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಗಲಮಾಡಿ ಉಡುಪುಗಳ ಅಂಚುಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ದ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ
But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
ಔತಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಸ್ಥಾನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಭಾಮಂದಿರ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥಳಗಳನ್ನೂ
And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
ಸಂತೆಯ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಂದನೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಜನರಿಂದ--ಬೋಧಕರೇ, ಬೋಧಕರೇ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುವದನ್ನೂ ಅವರು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
ಆದರೆ ನೀವು ಬೋಧಕರೆಂದು ಕರೆ ಯಲ್ಪಡಬೇಡಿರಿ. ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬೋಧಕನು ಮತ್ತು ನೀವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಸಹೋದರರು.
But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, [even] Christ; and all ye are brethren.
ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆಯೆಂದು ಕರೆಯಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಪರಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವಾತನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ.
And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
ನೀವು ಗುರುಗಳೆಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ ನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಗುರುವು.
Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, [even] Christ.
ಆದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡವನಾಗಿರುವವನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸೇವಕನಾಗಿರಬೇಕು.
But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅವನು ತಗ್ಗಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವನು; ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತಗ್ಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವನು.
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
ಆದರೆ ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ನೀವು ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಮುಂದೆ ಪರ ಲೋಕರಾಜ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚುತ್ತೀರಿ. ನೀವಂತೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿ ಸುವದಿಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುವವರನ್ನೂ ನೀವು ಒಳಗೆ ಹೋಗಗೊಡಿಸುವದಿಲ್ಲ.
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in [yourselves], neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ನೀವು ವಿಧವೆಯರ ಮನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನುಂಗುತ್ತೀರಿ; ಮತ್ತು ನಟನೆಗಾಗಿ ಉದ್ದವಾದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ; ಆದದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದ ದಂಡನೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುವಿರಿ.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಒಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಮತಾಂತರ ಮಾಡು ವದಕ್ಕೆ ನೀವು ಸಮುದ್ರವನ್ನೂ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನೂ ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತೀರಿ; ಮತಾಂತರ ಮಾಡಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಿಮಗಿಂತಲೂ ಎರಡರಷ್ಟು ನರಕದ ಮಗನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
ಕುರುಡರಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಕರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಒಬ್ಬನು ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅದು ಏನೂ ಅಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ; ಆದರೆ ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅವನು ಸಾಲಗಾರನು ಎಂದು ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ.
Woe unto you, [ye] blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
ಮೂರ್ಖರೇ, ಕುರುಡರೇ, ಯಾವದು ದೊಡ್ಡದು? ಚಿನ್ನವೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಚಿನ್ನವನ್ನು ಪಾವನ ಮಾಡುವ ದೇವಾಲಯವೋ?
[Ye] fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವದಾದರೆ ಅದು ಏನೂ ಅಲ್ಲವೆಂದೂ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅವನು ಅಪರಾಧಿ ಯೆಂದೂ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ.
And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
ಮೂರ್ಖರೇ, ಕುರುಡರೇ, ಯಾವದು ದೊಡ್ಡದು? ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪಾವನಮಾಡುವ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯೋ?
[Ye] fools and blind: for whether [is] greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
ಆದದರಿಂದ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಡು ವವನು ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವಂಥವುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
ದೇವಾ ಲಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನು ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಯೂ ಆದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವಾತನ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆ ಯಿಡುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
ಪರಲೋಕದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆ ಯಿಡುವವನು ದೇವರ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೂತಿರುವಾತನ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ನೀವು ಮರುಗ ಸೋಪು ಜೀರಿಗೆ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಶಮ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ತೀರ್ಪು ಕರುಣೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಎಂಬ ಈ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯವಾದವುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಇವುಗ ಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆ ಬೇರೆಯವುಗಳನೂ
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
ಕುರುಡ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಕರಾದ ನೀವು ಸೊಳ್ಳೇ ಸೋಸುವವರು ಮತ್ತು ಒಂಟೇ ನುಂಗುವವರು.
[Ye] blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ನೀವು ಪಾತ್ರೆಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಟ್ಟೆಯ ಹೊರಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಶುಚಿಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ಅವು ಒಳಗೆ ಸುಲಿಗೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ದುರಾಶೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತವೆ.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
ಕುರುಡನಾದ ಫರಿಸಾಯನೇ, ಮೊದಲು ಪಾತ್ರೆಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಟ್ಟೆಯ ಒಳಗಿನ ಭಾಗ ವನ್ನು ಶುಚಿಮಾಡು; ಆಗ ಅವುಗಳ ಹೊರ ಭಾಗವೂ ಶುಚಿಯಾಗುವದು.
[Thou] blind Pharisee, cleanse first that [which is] within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
ಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನೀವು ಸುಣ್ಣಾ ಹಚ್ಚಿದ ಸಮಾಧಿ ಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಅವು ಹೊರಗೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅಂದವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ; ಆದರೆ ಒಳಗೆ ಸತ್ತವರ ಎಲುಬು ಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅಶುದ್ಧತೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರು ತ್ತವೆ.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead [men’s] bones, and of all uncleanness.
ಅದರಂತೆಯೇ ನೀವು ಸಹ ಹೊರಗಡೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಿಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತರಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೀರಿ; ಆದರೆ ನೀವು ಒಳಗೆ ಕಪಟದಿಂದಲೂ ದುಷ್ಟತನ ದಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿದವರಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನೀವು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ನೀತಿವಂತರ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಲಂಕರಿಸುತ್ತೀರಿ.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
ಆದರೂ--ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ರಕ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪಾಲುಗಾರರಾಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಿ.
And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
ಆದದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿ ಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂದವರ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ ಎಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ನೀವೇ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ನಿಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳ ಅಳತೆಯನ್ನು ನೀವೇ ತುಂಬಿಸಿರಿ.
Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
ಹಾವು ಗಳೇ, ಸರ್ಪಸಂತತಿಯವರೇ, ನೀವು ನರಕದಂಡನೆ ಯಿಂದ ಹೇಗೆ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡೀರಿ?
[Ye] serpents, [ye] generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
ಆದದರಿಂದ ಇಗೋ, ನಾನು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿ ಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ನೀವು ಕೊಂದು ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೆ ಹಾಕುವಿರಿ; ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಭಾಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊರಡೆಗಳಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆದು ಅವ ರನ್ನು ಪಟ್ಟಣದಿಂದ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅಟ್ಟಿ ಹಿಂಸಿಸ
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and [some] of them ye shall kill and crucify; and [some] of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute [them] from city to city:
ಹೀಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತನಾದ ಹೇಬೆಲನ ರಕ್ತ ಮೊದಲು ಗೊಂಡು ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೂ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಗೂ ನಡುವೆ ನೀವು ಕೊಂದು ಹಾಕಿದ ಬರಕೀಯನ ಮಗನಾದ ಜಕರೀಯನ ರಕ್ತದವರೆಗೂ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಸುರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನೀತಿವಂತರ ರಕ್ತಾಪರಾಧವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರುವದು.
That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
ನಿಮಗೆ ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳು ತ್ತೇನೆ--ಇವೆಲ್ಲವುಗಳು ಈ ಸಂತತಿಯವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರುವವು.
Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
ಓ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮೇ, ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮೇ, ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವವಳೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸ ಲ್ಪಟ್ಟವರನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಲೆಸೆಯುವವಳೇ, ಕೋಳಿಯು ಮರಿಗಳನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ರೆಕ್ಕೆಗಳ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಕೂಡಿಸುವಂತೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸುವದಕ್ಕೆ ನನಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಸಾರಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿತ್ತು; ಆದರೆ ನಿನಗೆ ಮನ
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and ye would not!
ಇಗೋ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹಾಳಾದದ್ದಾಗಿ ಬಿಡಲ್ಪಡುವದು.ಇಂದಿನಿಂದ ಕರ್ತನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವಾತನು ಧನ್ಯನು ಎಂದು ನೀವು ಹೇಳುವ ವರೆಗೆ ನೀವು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋಡುವದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ ಅಂದನು.
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
ಇಂದಿನಿಂದ ಕರ್ತನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವಾತನು ಧನ್ಯನು ಎಂದು ನೀವು ಹೇಳುವ ವರೆಗೆ ನೀವು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋಡುವದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ ಅಂದನು.
For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
