ಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನೀವು ಸುಣ್ಣಾ ಹಚ್ಚಿದ ಸಮಾಧಿ ಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಅವು ಹೊರಗೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅಂದವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ; ಆದರೆ ಒಳಗೆ ಸತ್ತವರ ಎಲುಬು ಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅಶುದ್ಧತೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರು ತ್ತವೆ.

- 28ಅದರಂತೆಯೇ ನೀವು ಸಹ ಹೊರಗಡೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಿಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತರಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೀರಿ; ಆದರೆ ನೀವು ಒಳಗೆ ಕಪಟದಿಂದಲೂ ದುಷ್ಟತನ ದಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿದವರಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
