ಎಜ್ರನು ನ್ಯಾಯ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ನೀರಿನ ಬಾಗಲ ಮುಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಪುರುಷರ ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಬೆಳಗಿನಿಂದ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದ ವರೆಗೆ ಓದಿದನು. ಜನರೆ ಲ್ಲರೂ ನ್ಯಾಯಪ್ರಮಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಟ್ಟರು.

King James Version (KJV): And he read therein before the street that [was] before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people [were attentive] unto the book of the law.

1ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರು ಏಕವಾಗಿ ನೀರು ಬಾಗಲಿಗೆ ಎದುರಾಗಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಡಿ ಕೊಂಡು ಕರ್ತನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದ ಮೋಶೆಯ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಬರಲು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಾದ ಎಜ್ರನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
2ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಏಳನೇ ತಿಂಗಳಿನ ಮೊದಲನೇ ದಿವಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಭೆಯ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಪುರುಷರ ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಕೇಳುವವರೆಲ್ಲರ ಮುಂದೆಯೂ
3ಎಜ್ರನು ನ್ಯಾಯ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ನೀರಿನ ಬಾಗಲ ಮುಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಪುರುಷರ ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಬೆಳಗಿನಿಂದ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದ ವರೆಗೆ ಓದಿದನು. ಜನರೆ ಲ್ಲರೂ ನ್ಯಾಯಪ್ರಮಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಟ್ಟರು.
4ಆಗ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಾದ ಎಜ್ರನು ಅದಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ಮಾಡ ಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಒಂದು ಮರದ ಪೀಠದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿಂತನು. ಅವನ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಬಲಗಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತಿತ್ಯನೂ ಶೇಮವನೂ ಅನಾಯನೂ ಊರೀಯನೂ ಹಿಲ್ಕೀ ಯನೂ ಮಾಸೇಯನೂ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಎಡಗಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೆದಾಯನೂ ವಿಾಷಾಯೇಲನೂ ಮಲ್ಕೀಯನೂ ಹಾಷುಮನೂ ಹಷ್ಬದ್ದಾನನೂ ಜೆಕರ್ಯನೂ ಮೆಷು ಲ್ಲಾಮನೂ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದರು.
5ಎಜ್ರನು ಸಕಲ ಜನರ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳ ಮುಂದೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ತೆರೆದನು; (ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಸಕಲ ಜನರಿಗಿಂತ ಎತ್ತರವಾದ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದನು;) ಅವನು ಅದನ್ನು ತೆರೆದಾಗ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಎದ್ದು ನಿಂತರು.
