ആ യുവതി അതിസുന്ദരിയായിരുന്നു; അവൾ രാജാവിന്നു പരിചാരകിയായി ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്തു; എന്നാൽ രാജാവു അവളെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ല.

- 2ആകയാൽ അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാർ അവനോടു: യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്നുവേണ്ടി കന്യകയായൊരു യുവതിയെ അന്വേഷിക്കട്ടെ; അവൾ രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ ശുശ്രൂഷിച്ചുനില്ക്കയും യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ കുളിർ മാറേണ്ടതിന്നു തിരുമാർവ്വിൽ കിടക്കയും ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

- 4ആ യുവതി അതിസുന്ദരിയായിരുന്നു; അവൾ രാജാവിന്നു പരിചാരകിയായി ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്തു; എന്നാൽ രാജാവു അവളെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ല.
- 5അനന്തരം ഹഗ്ഗീത്തിന്റെ മകനായ അദോനീയാവു നിഗളിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു: ഞാൻ രാജാവാകുമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു രഥങ്ങളെയും കുതിരച്ചേവകരെയും തനിക്കു മുമ്പായി ഓടുവാൻ അമ്പതു അകമ്പടികളെയും സമ്പാദിച്ചു.
- 6അവന്റെ അപ്പൻ അവനെ മുഷിപ്പിക്കരുതെന്നുവെച്ചു അവന്റെ ജീവകാലത്തൊരിക്കലും: നീ ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തതു എന്തു എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല; അവനും ബഹുസുന്ദരനായിരുന്നു. അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെശേഷം ആയിരുന്നു അവൻ ജനിച്ചതു.
