രാവിലെ കുഞ്ഞിന്നു മുലകൊടുപ്പാൻ അടിയൻ എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോൾ അതു മരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു; വെളിച്ചമായശേഷം അടിയൻ സൂക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കിയാറെ അതു അടിയൻ പ്രസവിച്ച കുഞ്ഞല്ല.

- 22അതിന്നു മറ്റെ സ്ത്രീ: അങ്ങനെയല്ല; ജീവനുള്ളതു എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു; മരിച്ചതു നിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഇവളോ: മരിച്ചതു നിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു; ജീവനുള്ളതു എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഇങ്ങനെ അവർ രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ തമ്മിൽ വാദിച്ചു.
- 23അപ്പോൾ രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചതു: ജീവനുള്ളതു എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു, മരിച്ചതു നിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു എന്നു ഇവൾ പറയുന്നു; അങ്ങനെയല്ല, മരിച്ചതു നിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു, ജീവനുള്ളതു എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു എന്നു മറ്റേവൾ പറയുന്നു.
