1. 2അവൻ അവനോടു: അങ്ങനെ ഭവിക്കരുതേ, നീ മരിക്കയില്ല; എന്റെ അപ്പൻ എന്നെ അറിയിക്കാതെ വലുതോ ചെറുതോ യാതൊന്നും ചെയ്‌വാറില്ല; പിന്നെ ഈ കാര്യം എന്നെ മറെപ്പാൻ സംഗതി എന്തു? അങ്ങനെ വരികയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
2. 3ദാവീദ് പിന്നെയും അവനോടു: എന്നോടു നിനക്കു പ്രിയമാകുന്നുവെന്നു നിന്റെ അപ്പൻ നല്ലവണ്ണം അറികയാൽ യോനാഥാൻ ദുഃഖിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവൻ ഇതു ഗ്രഹിക്കരുതു എന്നു അവൻ വിചാരിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാൽ യഹോവയാണ, നിന്നാണ, എനിക്കും മരണത്തിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ ഒരടി അകലം മാത്രമേയുള്ളു എന്നു സത്യം ചെയ്തു പറഞ്ഞു.
3. 4അപ്പോൾ യോനാഥാൻ ദാവീദിനോടു: നിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം എന്തു? ഞാൻ അതു ചെയ്തുതരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
4. 5ദാവീദ് യോനാഥാനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: നാളെ അമാവാസ്യയാകുന്നു; ഞാനും രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ പന്തിഭോജനത്തിന്നു ഇരിക്കേണ്ടതല്ലോ; എങ്കിലും മറ്റെന്നാൾ വൈകുന്നേരംവരെ വയലിൽ ഒളിച്ചിരിപ്പാൻ എനിക്കു അനുവാദം തരേണം.
5. 6നിന്റെ അപ്പൻ എന്നെ കാണാഞ്ഞിട്ടു അന്വേഷിച്ചാൽ: ദാവീദ് സ്വന്തപട്ടണമായ ബേത്ത്ലേഹെമിലേക്കു ഒന്നു പോയിവരേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടു താല്പര്യമായി അനുവാദം ചോദിച്ചു; അവന്റെ കുലത്തിന്നെല്ലാം അവിടെ വർഷാന്തരയാഗം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ബോധിപ്പിക്കേണം.
