ദാവീദ് അഹീമേലെക്കിനോടു: ഇവിടെ നിന്റെ കൈവശം കുന്തമോ വാളോ ഉണ്ടോ? രാജാവിന്റെ കാര്യം തിടുക്കമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ എന്റെ വാളും ആയുധങ്ങളും കൊണ്ടുപോന്നില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

King James Version (KJV): And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.

9അപ്പോൾ പുരോഹിതൻ: ഏലാ താഴ്‌വരയിൽവെച്ചു നീ കൊന്ന ഫെലിസ്ത്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്തിന്റെ വാൾ ഏഫോദിന്റെ പുറകിൽ ഒരു ശീലയിൽ പൊതിഞ്ഞു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു വേണമെങ്കിൽ എടുത്തുകൊൾക; അതല്ലാതെ വേറെ ഒന്നുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു തുല്യം മറ്റൊന്നുമില്ല; അതു എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞു.
10പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു അന്നു തന്നേ ശൗലിന്റെ നിമിത്തം ഗത്ത്‌രാജാവായ ആഖീശിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഓടിച്ചെന്നു.
