എന്നാൽ രാവിലെ നാബാലിന്റെ വീഞ്ഞു ഇറങ്ങിയശേഷം അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ അവനോടു വിവരം അറിയിച്ചപ്പോൾ അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം അവന്റെ ഉള്ളിൽ നിർജ്ജീവമായി അവൻ കല്ലിച്ചുപോയി.

- 38പത്തുദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം യഹോവ നാബാലിനെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു, അവൻ മരിച്ചുപോയി.
- 39നാബാൽ മരിച്ചു എന്നു ദാവീദ് കേട്ടപ്പോൾ: എന്നെ നിന്ദിച്ച നിന്ദെക്കായിട്ടു നാബാലിനോടു വ്യവഹരിക്കയും തന്റെ ദാസനെ തിന്മ ചെയ്യാതവണ്ണം തടുക്കയും ചെയ്ത യഹോവെക്കു സ്തോത്രം. നാബാലിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത യഹോവ അവന്റെ തലയിൽ തന്നേ വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് അബീഗയിലിനെ തനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായി പരിഗ്രഹിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവളോടു സംസാരിപ്പാൻ ആളയച്ചു.
