ദാവീദ് അബ്നേരിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: നീ ഒരു പുരുഷൻ അല്ലയോ? യിസ്രായേലിൽ നിനക്കു തുല്യൻ ആരുള്ളു? അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ നിന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ നീ കാത്തുകൊള്ളാതിരുന്നതു എന്തു? നിന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ നശിപ്പിപ്പാൻ ജനത്തിൽ ഒരുത്തൻ അവിടെ വന്നിരുന്നുവല്ലോ.

Daaveed abnerinotu paranynyatu: nee oru purushan allayo? Yisraayelil ninakku tulyan aarullu? Angnganeyirikke ninte yajamaananaaya raajaavine nee kaattukollaatirunnatu entu? Ninte yajamaananaaya raajaavine nashippippaan janattil oruttan avite vannirunnuvallo.

King James Version (KJV): And David said to Abner, [Art] not thou a [valiant] man? and who [is] like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.

16നീ ചെയ്ത കാര്യം നന്നായില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനായ നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനനെ കാത്തുകൊള്ളാതിരിക്കയാൽ യഹോവയാണ നിങ്ങൾ മരണയോഗ്യർ ആകുന്നു. രാജാവിന്റെ കുന്തവും അവന്റെ തലെക്കൽ ഇരുന്ന ജലപാത്രവും എവിടെ എന്നു നോക്കുക.
17അപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ ദാവീദിന്റെ ശബ്ദം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു: എന്റെ മകനെ, ദാവീദേ, ഇതു നിന്റെ ശബ്ദമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു ദാവീദ് എന്റെ ശബ്ദം തന്നേ, യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
