എന്നാൽ കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാനും നാട്ടുപുറത്തു പാർത്തിരുന്ന എല്ലാപടത്തലവന്മാരും മിസ്പയിൽ ഗെദല്യാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു അവനോടു:

- 12സകല യെഹൂദന്മാരും അവർ ചിതറിപ്പോയിരുന്ന സകലസ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽനിന്നും മടങ്ങി യെഹൂദാദേശത്തു ഗെദല്യാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മിസ്പയിൽ വന്നു വീഞ്ഞും പഴവും അനവധിയായി ശേഖരിച്ചു.
- 13എന്നാൽ കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാനും നാട്ടുപുറത്തു പാർത്തിരുന്ന എല്ലാപടത്തലവന്മാരും മിസ്പയിൽ ഗെദല്യാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു അവനോടു:
- 14നിന്നെ കൊന്നുകളയേണ്ടതിന്നു അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവായ ബാലീസ് നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യിശ്മായേലിനെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; അഹീക്കാമിന്റെ മകനായ ഗെദല്യാവോ അവരുടെ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിച്ചില്ല.
- 15പിന്നെ കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാൻ മിസ്പയിൽവെച്ചു ഗെദല്യാവോടു രഹസ്യമായി സംസാരിച്ചു: ഞാൻ ചെന്നു ആരും അറിയാതെ നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യിശ്മായേലിനെ കൊന്നുകളയട്ടെ; നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൂടിയിരിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ യെഹൂദന്മാരും ചിതറിപ്പോകുവാനും യെഹൂദയിൽ ശേഷിച്ചവർ നശിച്ചുപോകുവാനും തക്കവണ്ണം അവൻ നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
