1. 6മിസ്രയീമിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ട യോദ്ധാക്കളായവരൊക്കെയും യഹോവയുടെ വാക്കു അനുസരിക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു അവർ മരിച്ചൊടുങ്ങുംവരെ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ നാല്പതു സംവത്സരം മരുഭൂമിയിൽ സഞ്ചരിക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു; നമുക്കു തരുമെന്നു യഹോവ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു സത്യംചെയ്ത ദേശമായി പാലും തേനും ഒഴുകുന്ന ദേശം അവരെ കാണിക്കയില്ല എന്നു യഹോവ അവരോടു സത്യം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
2. 7എന്നാൽ അവർക്കു പകരം അവൻ എഴുന്നേല്പിച്ച പുത്രന്മാരെ യോശുവ പരിച്ഛേദന ചെയ്തു; അവരെ പ്രയാണത്തിൽ പരിച്ഛേദന ചെയ്യായ്കകൊണ്ടു അവർ അഗ്രചർമ്മികളായിരുന്നു.
3. 8അവർ സർവ്വജനത്തെയും പരിച്ഛേദനചെയ്തു തീർന്നശേഷം അവർക്കു സൗഖ്യമായതുവരെ അവർ പാളയത്തിൽ താന്താങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തു പാർത്തു.
4. 9യഹോവ യോശുവയോടു: ഇന്നു ഞാൻ മിസ്രയീമിന്റെ നിന്ദ നിങ്ങളിൽനിന്നു ഉരുട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ ഗില്ഗാൽ (ഉരുൾ) എന്നു പേർ പറയുന്നു.
5. 10യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ ഗില്ഗാലിൽ പാളയമിറങ്ങി; ആ മാസം പതിന്നാലാം തിയ്യതി സന്ധ്യാസമയത്തു യെരീഹോസമഭൂമിയിൽ വെച്ചു പെസഹ കഴിച്ചു.
