1. 3അവന്റെ അപ്പനും അമ്മയും അവനോടു: അഗ്രചർമ്മികളായ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരിൽനിന്നു നീ ഒരു ഭാര്യയെ എടുപ്പാൻ പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ കന്യകമാരിലും നമ്മുടെ സകലജനത്തിലും യാതൊരുത്തിയും ഇല്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു ശിംശോൻ തന്റെ അപ്പനോടു: അവളെ എനിക്കു എടുക്കേണം; അവളെ എനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
2. 4ഇതു യഹോവയാൽ ഉണ്ടായതു എന്നു അവന്റെ അപ്പനും അമ്മയും അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; അവൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നേരെ അവസരം അന്വേഷിക്കയായിരുന്നു. ആ കാലത്തു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരായിരുന്നു യിസ്രായേലിനെ വാണിരുന്നതു.
3. 5അങ്ങനെ ശിംശോനും അവന്റെ അപ്പനും അമ്മയും തിമ്നയിലേക്കു പോയി തിമ്നെക്കരികെയുള്ള മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ഒരു ബാലസിംഹം അവന്റെ നേരെ അലറിവന്നു.
4. 6അപ്പോൾ യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അവന്റെമേൽ വന്നു; കയ്യിൽ ഒന്നും ഇല്ലാതിരിക്കെ അവൻ അതിനെ ഒരു ആട്ടിൻകുട്ടിയെപ്പോലെ കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞു; താൻ ചെയ്തതു അപ്പനോടും അമ്മയോടും പറഞ്ഞില്ല.
5. 7പിന്നെ അവൻ ചെന്നു ആ സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിച്ചു; അവളെ ശീംശോന്നു ബോധിച്ചു.
