And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, [that] they returned, and corrupted [themselves] more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

2. 18യഹോവ അവർക്കു ന്യായാധിപന്മാരെ എഴുന്നേല്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ യഹോവ അതതു ന്യായധിപനോടു കൂടെയിരുന്നു അവന്റെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും അവരെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കും; തങ്ങളെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ചു പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നവരുടെ നിമിത്തം ഉള്ള അവരുടെ നിലവിളിയിങ്കൽ യഹോവെക്കു മനസ്സിലിവു തോന്നും.
3. 19എന്നാൽ ആ ന്യായാധിപൻ മരിച്ചശേഷം അവർ തിരിഞ്ഞു അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെ ചെന്നു സേവിച്ചും നമസ്കരിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെക്കാൾ അധികം വഷളത്വം പ്രവർത്തിക്കും; അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികളും ദുശ്ശാഠ്യനടപ്പും വിടാതിരിക്കും.
4. 20അങ്ങനെ യഹോവയുടെ കോപം യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ ജ്വലിച്ചു: ഈ ജാതി അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു ഞാൻ കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ നിയമം ലംഘിച്ചു എന്റെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കായ്കയാൽ
