1. 17దావీదు ఉప వాసముండి లోపలికి పోయి రాత్రి అంతయు నేలపడి యుండి బిడ్డకొరకు దేవుని బతిమాలగా, ఇంటిలో ఎన్నిక యైనవారు లేచి అతనిని నేలనుండి లేవనెత్తుటకు వచ్చిరిగాని అతడు సమ్మతింపక వారితోకూడ భోజనము చేయక యుండెను.
2. 18ఏడవ దినమున బిడ్డ చావగాబిడ్డ ప్రాణముతో ఉండగా మేము అతనితో మాటిలాడినప్పుడు అతడు మా మాటలు వినక యుండెను.
3. 19ఇప్పుడు బిడ్డ చనిపోయెనని మనము అతనితో చెప్పినయెడల తనకుతాను హాని చేసికొనునేమో యనుకొని, దావీదు సేవకులు బిడ్డ చనిపోయెనను సంగతి అతనితో చెప్ప వెరచిరి. అయితే దావీదు తన సేవకులు గుసగుసలాడుట చూచి బిడ్డ చనిపోయెనను సంగతి గ్రహించిబిడ్డ చనిపోయెనా అని తన సేవకుల నడుగగా వారుచని పోయెననిరి.
4. 20అప్పుడు దావీదు నేలనుండి లేచి స్నానముచేసి తైలము పూసికొని వేరు వస్త్రములు ధరించి యెహోవా మందిరములో ప్రవేశించి మ్రొక్కి తన యింటికి తిరిగి వచ్చి భోజనము తెమ్మనగా వారు వడ్డించిరి; అప్పుడు అతడు భోజనము చేసెను.
5. 21అతని సేవకులుబిడ్డ జీవముతో ఉండగా ఉప వాసముండి దానికొరకు ఏడ్చుచుంటివి గాని అది మరణ మైనప్పుడు లేచి భోజనము చేసితివి. నీవీలాగున చేయుట ఏమని దావీదు నడుగగా
