King James Version (KJV): And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.

21వారు వెళ్లిన తరువాత యోనాతానును అహిమయస్సును బావిలోనుండి బయటికి వచ్చి దావీదునొద్దకు పోయి అహీతోపెలు అతనిమీద చేసిన ఆలోచన తెలియజేసినీవు లేచి త్వరగా నది దాటవలసినదని అతనితో చెప్పగా
22దావీదును అతని యొద్దనున్న జనులందరును లేచి యొర్దానునది దాటిరి, తెల్లవారునప్పటికి నది దాటక యుండినవాడు ఒకడును లేకపోయెను.
23అహీతోపెలు తాను చెప్పిన ఆలోచన జరుగకపోవుట చూచి, గాడిదకు గంతకట్టి యెక్కి తన ఊరనున్న తన యింటికి పోయి తన యిల్లు చక్కబెట్టుకొని ఉరిపోసికొని చనిపోయెను; జనులు అతని తండ్రి సమాధియందు అతనిని పాతిపెట్టిరి.
