నలువది దెబ్బలు కొట్టింపవచ్చును అంతకు మించకూడదు. వీటి కంటే విస్తారమైన దెబ్బలు కొట్టించినయెడల నీ సహోద రుడు నీ దృష్టికి నీచుడుగా కనబడునేమో.

- Forty stripes he may give him, [and] not exceed: lest, [if] he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
