ಸಮು ವೇಲನು ಎದ್ದು ಗಿಲ್ಗಾಲಿನಿಂದ ಬೆನ್ಯಾವಿಾನ್‌ ದೇಶದ ಗಿಬೆಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದನು. ಸೌಲನು ತನ್ನ ಸಂಗಡ ಇದ್ದ ಜನರನ್ನು ಲೆಕ್ಕಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಅವರು ಸುಮಾರು ಆರು ನೂರು ಜನರಿದ್ದರು.

- 14ಆದರೆ ಈಗ ನಿನ್ನ ರಾಜ್ಯವು ನಿಲ್ಲಲಾರದು. ಕರ್ತನು ನಿನಗೆ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿ ದ್ದನ್ನು ನೀನು ಕೈಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಹೋದದರಿಂದ ಆತನು ತನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಸರಣೆಯಾದ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ನನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಜನರ ಮೇಲೆ ನಾಯಕನನ್ನಾಗಿ ನೇಮಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದನು.

- 16ಸೌಲನೂ ಅವನ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೋನಾತಾನನೂ ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡ ಇರುವ ಜನರೂ ಸಹಿತವಾಗಿ ಬೆನ್ಯಾ ವಿಾನ್‌ ದೇಶದ ಗಿಬೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಮಿಕ್ಮಾಷಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.
- 17ಆಗ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿ ಯರ ಪಾಳೆಯದಿಂದ ಸುಲುಕೊಳ್ಳುವವರು ಮೂರು ಗುಂಪಾಗಿ ಹೊರಟರು; ಒಂದು ಗುಂಪು ಒಫ್ರದ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿ ಶುವಲ್‌ ದೇಶದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಹೋಯಿತು;
