1. 11ಸೌಲನೂ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರೂ ಆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯನ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಎದೆಗುಂದಿ ಬಹು ಭಯಪಟ್ಟರು.
2. 12ದಾವೀದನು ಯೆಹೂದದ ಬೇತ್ಲೆಹೇಮ್‌ ಊರಿನ ಎಫ್ರಾತ್ಯನಾದ ಇಷಯನೆಂಬವನ ಮಗನಾ ಗಿದ್ದನು. ಈ ಇಷಯನಿಗೆ ಎಂಟು ಮಂದಿ ಕುಮಾರ ರಿದ್ದರು. ಇವನು ಸೌಲನ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜನರೊಳಗೆ ವೃದ್ಧನಾಗಿದ್ದನು.
3. 13ಇಷಯನ ಮೂವರು ಹಿರೀ ಕುಮಾರರು ಸೌಲನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದರು. ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದ ಆ ಮೂವರು ಕುಮಾರರಲ್ಲಿ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲ ಮಗನ ಹೆಸರು ಎಲೀಯಾಬನು; ಎರಡನೆ ಯವನ ಹೆಸರು ಅಬೀನಾದಾಬನು, ಮೂರನೆಯವನ ಹೆಸರು ಶಮ್ಮನು.
4. 14ಆದರೆ ದಾವೀದನು ಚಿಕ್ಕವನಾ ಗಿದ್ದನು. ಹಿರಿಯರಾದ ಆ ಮೂವರು ಸೌಲನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದರು.
5. 15ದಾವೀದನು ಸೌಲನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬೇತ್ಲೆಹೇಮಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಕುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೇಯಿಸಲು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದನು.
