1. 1ತರುವಾಯ ದಾವೀದನು ನೋಬ್‌ ಊರಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಯಾಜಕನಾದ ಅಹೀಮೆಲೆ ಕನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದನು. ಅಹೀಮೆಲೆಕನು ದಾವೀದನನ್ನು ಎದುರುಗೊಳ್ಳಬಂದಾಗ ಹೆದರಿ--ಒಬ್ಬರೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಸಂಗಡ ಬಾರದೆ ನೀನು ಒಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಬಂದದ್ದು ಏನೆಂದು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದನು.
2. 2ದಾವೀದನು ಯಾಜಕನಾದ ಅಹೀಮೆಲೆಕನಿಗೆ--ಅರಸನು ನನಗೆ ಒಂದು ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿ--ನಾನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ ಕಾರ್ಯವು ನಿನಗೆ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದ್ದು ಇಂಥಾದ್ದೆಂದು ಒಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿಯ ಬಾರದೆಂದು ನನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದನು. ಇಂಥಿಂಥ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಬೇಕೆಂದು ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಕೆಲಸದವರಿಗೆ ನೇಮಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
3. 3ಈಗ ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾದರೂ ಉಂಟೋ? ಐದು ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನಾದರೂ ನಿನಗೆ ದೊರಕಿದ ಯಾವದನ್ನಾದರೂ ನನಗೆ ಕೊಡು ಅಂದನು.
4. 4ಯಾಜಕನು ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರ ವಾಗಿ--ಪರಿಶುದ್ಧ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯ ಹೊರತಾಗಿ ನನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಕೆಯಾದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ ಒಂದಾದರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ; ಯೌವನ ಸ್ಥರು ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅದು ಆಗಲಿ ಅಂದನು.
