ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ಬೋಧಕರಾದ ನಮಗೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ದಂಡನೆಯಾಗುವದೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಹುಮಂದಿ ಬೋಧಕರಾಗಬೇಡಿರಿ.
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
ಅನೇಕ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ತಪ್ಪುವದುಂಟು. ಒಬ್ಬನು ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಪ್ಪದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಪರಿ ಪೂರ್ಣನೂ ತನ್ನ ದೇಹವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಪಡಿಸಿ ಕೊಳ್ಳುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮರ್ಥನೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same [is] a perfect man, [and] able also to bridle the whole body.
ಇಗೋ, ಕುದುರೆಗಳು ನಮಗೆ ವಿಧೇಯವಾಗುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಅವು ಗಳ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಕಡಿವಾಣ ಹಾಕುತ್ತೇವಲ್ಲಾ; ಆಗ ಅವುಗಳ ದೇಹವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ತಿರುಗಿಸುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ.
Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
ಹಡಗುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಹ ನೋಡಿರಿ. ಅವು ಬಹು ದೊಡ್ಡವಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಬಲವಾದ ಗಾಳಿಯಿಂದ ಬಡಿಸಿ ಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದಾಗ್ಯೂ ಬಹು ಸಣ ಚುಕಾಣಿಯಿಂದ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ನಡಿಸುವವನು ತನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
Behold also the ships, which though [they be] so great, and [are] driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನಾಲಿಗೆಯು ಕೂಡ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಚ್ಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಗೋ, ಎಷ್ಟು ಕೊಂಚ ಕಿಚ್ಚು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಾಡನ್ನು ಸುಡುತ್ತದೆ ನೋಡಿರಿ.
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
ನಾಲಿಗೆಯು ಬೆಂಕಿಯೂ ದುಷ್ಟಲೋಕವೂ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಹೀಗೆ ಅದು ನಮ್ಮ ಅಂಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದು ದೇಹವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹೊಲೆಮಾಡಿ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹಚ್ಚುವ ಹಾಗೆಯೂ ನರಕದ ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು ಹಚ್ಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ದಾಗಿಯೂ ಇದೆ.
And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಜಾತಿಯು ಸಕಲ ವಿಧವಾದ ಮೃಗ, ಪಕ್ಷಿ, ಸರ್ಪ, ಜಲಚರಗಳನ್ನು ಹತೋಟಿಗೆ ತರುವದುಂಟು ಮತ್ತು ತಂದದ್ದುಂಟು.
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
ಆದರೆ ನಾಲಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಯಾವ ಮಾನವನೂ ಹತೋ ಟಿಗೆ ತರಲಾರನು. ಅದು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನವಾಗದ ಕೆಡುಕಾ ಗಿದೆ; ಮರಣಕರವಾದ ವಿಷದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿ ಇದೆ.
But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
ಅದೇ ನಾಲಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಕೊಂಡಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ; ಆದರಿಂದಲೇ ದೇವರ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಗೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಉಂಟುಮಾಡಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ನಾವು ಶಪಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ.
Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
ಅದೇ ಬಾಯಿಂದ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಪ ಬರುತ್ತವೆ; ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ಇವುಗಳು ಹೀಗಿರಬಾರದು.
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
ಒಂದೇ ಊಟೆಯು ಸಿಹಿನೀರನ್ನೂ ಕಹಿನೀರನ್ನೂ ಒಂದೇ ಸ್ಥಳದಿಂದ ಹೊರಡುವದುಂಟೇ?
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet [water] and bitter?
ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ಅಂಜೂರದ ಮರವು ಎಣ್ಣೇಮರದ ಕಾಯಿ ಬಿಡುವದೋ? ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷೇ ಬಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂಜೂರದ ಹಣ್ಣಾಗುವದೋ? ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಯಾವ ಊಟೆಯೂ ಉಪ್ಪು ನೀರನ್ನೂ ಸಿಹಿ ನೀರನ್ನೂ ಕೊಡಲಾರದು.
Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so [can] no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯೂ ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತನೂ ಯಾರು? ಅಂಥವನು ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಸಾತ್ವಿಕತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಲಿ.
Who [is] a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
ಆದರೆ ಕಹಿಯಾದ ಹಗೆತನ ಮತ್ತು ಜಗಳ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯ ಗಳೊಳಗೆ ಇರುವಲ್ಲಿ ನೀವು ಸತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಸುಳ್ಳಾಡಿ ಹೊಗಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡಿರಿ.
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
ಅದು ಮೇಲಣಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಜ್ಞಾನವಲ್ಲ; ಅದು ಭೂಸಂಬಂಧ ವಾದದ್ದು, ಪ್ರಾಕೃತಭಾವವಾದದ್ದು, ದೆವ್ವಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟದ್ದು.
This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish.
ಹೊಟ್ಟೇಕಿಚ್ಚೂ ಜಗಳವೂ ಇರುವ ಕಡೆ ಗಲಿಬಿಲಿಯೂ ಸಕಲವಿಧವಾದ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಕೃತ್ಯವೂ ಇರುವವು.
For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every evil work.
ಆದರೆ ಮೇಲಣಿಂದ ಬರುವ ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಮೊದಲು ನಿರ್ಮಲವಾದದ್ದು, ಆಮೇಲೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನಕರವಾದದ್ದು, ವಿನಯವುಳ್ಳದ್ದು, ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂಥದು, ಕರುಣೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ಒಳ್ಳೇ ಫಲಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರುವಂಥದ್ದು ಆಗಿದೆ; ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತವೂ ಕಪಟವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.ಸಮಾಧಾನ ಪಡಿಸುವವರಿಗೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀತಿಯ ಫಲವು ಬಿತ್ತಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತದೆ.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
ಸಮಾಧಾನ ಪಡಿಸುವವರಿಗೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀತಿಯ ಫಲವು ಬಿತ್ತಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತದೆ.
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
