ಅವನು ಯೆಹೂದದ ಬೇತ್ಲೆ ಹೇಮಿನವಳಾದಂಥ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯನ್ನು ಉಪಪತ್ನಿಯಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದನು. ಅವನ ಉಪಪತ್ನಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಜಾರತ್ವಮಾಡಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಯೆಹೂದದ ಬೇತ್ಲೆಹೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಲ್ಕು ತಿಂಗಳಿದ್ದಳು.

- 3ಆಗ ಅವಳ ಗಂಡನು ಎದ್ದು ಅವಳ ಸಂಗಡ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ ಅವಳನ್ನು ತಿರಿಗಿ ಕರತರುವದಕ್ಕೆ ತನ್ನ ಊಳಿಗದವನನ್ನೂ ಎರಡು ಕತ್ತೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಅವಳ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋದನು. ಅವಳು ಅವನನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಮನೆಗೆ ಕರಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದಳು. ಹೆಂಗಸಿನ ತಂದೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ಕಂಡಾಗ ಅವನನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡ ದ್ದರಿಂದ ಸಂತೋಷಪಟ್ಟನು.
- 4ಆ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ಅವನ ಮಾವನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಇರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನು ಮೂರು ದಿನ ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡ ಇದ್ದನು. ಅವರು ತಿಂದು ಕುಡಿದು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.
