അവർ വന്നപ്പോൾ അവൻ എലീയാബിനെ കണ്ടിട്ടു: യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ അവന്റെ അഭിഷിക്തൻ ഇതാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

- 5അതിന്നു അവൻ: ശുഭം തന്നേ; ഞാൻ യഹോവെക്കു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാൻ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളെ തന്നേ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു എന്നോടുകൂടെ യാഗത്തിന്നു വരുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ യിശ്ശായിയെയും അവന്റെ മക്കളെയും ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു അവരെയും യാഗത്തിന്നു ക്ഷണിച്ചു.

- 7യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടു: അവന്റെ മുഖമോ പൊക്കമോ നോക്കരുതു; ഞാൻ അവനെ തള്ളിയിരിക്കുന്നു. മനുഷ്യൻ നോക്കുന്നതുപോലെയല്ല; മനുഷ്യൻ കണ്ണിന്നു കാണുന്നതു നോക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയോ ഹൃദയത്തെ നോക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
- 8പിന്നെ യിശ്ശായി അബീനാദാബിനെ വിളിച്ചു ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വരുത്തി; എന്നാറെ അവൻ: യഹോവ ഇവനെയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
