ആടുകൾ കുടിപ്പാൻ വന്നപ്പോൾ അവൻ, താൻ തോലുരിച്ച കൊമ്പുകളെ പാത്തികളിലും വെള്ളം പകരുന്ന തൊട്ടികളിലും ആടുകളുടെ മുമ്പിൽ വെച്ചു; അവ വെള്ളം കുടിപ്പാൻ വന്നപ്പോൾ ചനയേറ്റു.

40ആ ആട്ടിൻകുട്ടികളെ യാക്കോബ് വേർതിരിച്ചു ആടുകളെ ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകളിൽ വരയും മറുവുമുള്ള എല്ലാറ്റിന്നും അഭിമുഖമായി നിർത്തി; തന്റെ സ്വന്തകൂട്ടങ്ങളെ ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകളോടു ചേർക്കാതെ വേറെയാക്കി.
