അങ്ങനെ അവൻ സുഖാർ എന്നോരു ശമര്യപട്ടണത്തിൽ യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ പുത്രനായ യോസേഫിന്നു കൊടുത്ത നിലത്തിന്നരികെ എത്തി.

3അവൻ യെഹൂദ്യദേശം വിട്ടു പിന്നെയും ഗലീലെക്കു യാത്രയായി.
4അവൻ ശമര്യയിൽ കൂടി കടന്നുപോകേണ്ടിവന്നു.
5അങ്ങനെ അവൻ സുഖാർ എന്നോരു ശമര്യപട്ടണത്തിൽ യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ പുത്രനായ യോസേഫിന്നു കൊടുത്ത നിലത്തിന്നരികെ എത്തി.
6അവിടെ യാക്കോബിന്റെ ഉറവുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. യേശു വഴി നടന്നു ക്ഷീണിച്ചിട്ടു ഉറവിന്നരികെ ഇരുന്നു; അപ്പോൾ ഏകദേശം ആറാം മണിനേരം ആയിരുന്നു.
7ഒരു ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ വെള്ളം കോരുവാൻ വന്നു; യേശു അവളോടു: എനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാൻ തരുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
