Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

2. 5అతడైతే ఆ విషజంతువును అగ్నిలో జాడించి వేసి, యే హానియు పొందలేదు.
3. 6వారతని శరీరము వాచునో లేక అతడు అకస్మాత్తుగా పడిచచ్చునో అని కనిపెట్టుచుండిరి. చాలసేపు కనిపెట్టుచుండిన తరువాత అతనికి ఏ హానియు కలుగకుండుట చూచి ఆ అభిప్రాయము మాని ఇతడొక దేవత అని చెప్పసాగిరి.
4. 7పొప్లి అను ఒకడు ఆ ద్వీపములో ముఖ్యుడు. అతనికి ఆ ప్రాంతములలో భూములుండెను. అతడు మమ్మును చేర్చుకొని మూడు దినములు స్నేహ భావముతో ఆతిథ్య మిచ్చెను.
5. 8అప్పుడు పొప్లియొక్క తండ్రి జ్వరముచేతను రక్తభేదిచేతను బాధపడుచు పండుకొని యుండెను. పౌలు అతనియొద్దకు వెళ్లి ప్రార్థనచేసి, అతనిమీద చేతులుంచి స్వస్థపరచెను.
